Hello there and thanks for visiting! I'm Carly, the founder and designer at Big Vibes Day. I'm a Melbourne Mum of fun loving twins and Millie the cavoodle, and I'm on a mission to create gorgeous sun protective fashion that women actually want to wear.
Having had a melanoma removed in my early thirties, I am fastidious about sun protection. But I also love the sun, long days playing with my kids in the ocean, long walks on the beach (my meditation!) and relaxing by the pool with a huge stack of books and a killer flat white.
Big Vibes Day was born from my quest for a fashion forward, premium quality rashie, that wasn't a Mumsy killjoy. And it had to be sustainable, Australian made fashion, built to last. I believe in buy less, choose well.
I searched high and low for the best quality fabrics (oh, did we test a few!), the best quality makers and we bring you the best quality garments that we, and you, can be proud to wear. We stand for feel good, joy sparking fashion all round.

OUR "WHY"
Born and based in beachside Melbourne, Australia, we are female founded, female funded, and on a mission to make sun protection chic and fun.
Australian women still underestimate the risks of skin cancer...but the tide is turning as the sun savvy moment gathers momentum.
The serious stuff
“Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.... About 2000 Australians will die from skin cancer this year... About 2 out of 3 Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer during their lifetime.” Cancer Council NSW)
Don't be a statistic! This killer disease is almost entirely preventable, but Australians are still grossly underestimating the risks to them personally. Skin cancer does not discriminate - it impacts people with any skin tone, even if you don't burn - and you can't always see the damage that's happening to the skin. The damage builds up over time - it can happen long before you get burnt or build up a tan.
Need your Vitamin D?
When UV levels are 3 or above (ie. during summer and beyond in Australia) most Australians get enough Vitamin D with just a few minutes of incidental sun exposure - that's a short walk to your nearest cafe. (Source: Cancer Council)
Beauty tip - forget expensive skincare - just protect your skin!
Be vain-y not veiney. The single best thing by far that you can incorporate into your beauty regime is to protect your skin from UV exposure. Sun exposure causes premature ageing of the skin - yep, those darned wrinkles. Not to mention liver spots, spider veins, redness, rough texture, loss of elasticity, need we go on…

Our UPF50+ beach tees are good for your body, soul and the planet.
Our rashguards are made from beautiful Italian fabric comprised of recycled fibres from post consumer materials - such as plastics and reclaimed fishing nets from the oceans.
Our fabrics are also durable and our garments are built to last - reducing contribution to landfill. Our fabric has superior resistance to fibre breakage, chlorine, sunscreen and oil compared to competitor fabrics.
We make in small batches, to reduce wastage, and our garments are made locally and sustainably in Melbourne by our Ethical Clothing Australia accredited manufacturer.
We are committed to a happy planet, using recycled packaging, and to supporting the local manufacturing industry.

Plus they feel reeeeally nice to wear.
